Cassandra Gilbert Photography
Hi, my name is Cassandra. I was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia.
I’ve always loved photography, the idea that you can capture a moment in time that would otherwise be lost, and then share it with other people, has always fascinated me.
I bought my first DSLR in 2014 and have never looked back. I’m completely self taught, watching YouTube videos, and going out with like minded people, learning as I went. My passion has always been landscapes and in particular long exposure photography, there’s just something about the way water moves around rocks that holds me captivated for hours. Along the way I’ve also come to enjoy other genres such as Astrophotography, birding, portraiture and now drone photography as well.
A few years ago, I was offered an amazing opportunity to work with one of Perth’s leading wedding photographers as a second shooter. This opened my eyes to the world of wedding photography, and I have to admit, I loved every second. Knowing that I was capturing memories that would help these couples relive this day, for the rest of their lives…..there’s something so special and powerful about that. After a year as a second shooter I decided to go out alone and shoot weddings for my own couples. I thoroughly enjoyed this, but honestly didn’t realise the extent of work that went into not only shooting the wedding, but all the planning beforehand and the endless hours of editing afterwards. This all started to take its toll, and I realised my passion really was landscapes.
I was always told by people I should sell my work, but I’m so passionate about my photography, I really do put so much of myself into my photos, so the thought of putting myself out there like that, scared me to death. Then in May 2022 I had a serious health scare and realised how precious time really is, that I needed to stop being scared and follow my dreams.
So that brings us to today, here I am, opening my heart and soul to you all, through my photography. I hope you enjoy coming on this journey with me and that my photos take you to a calm, peaceful place when you look at them, the way I feel, when I’m out taking them.
