Meet the Makers: Happs Wines & Commonage Pottery
In 1978, the story of Happs Wines & Commonage Pottery began in the picturesque Margaret River region of Western Australia. It all started with two local high school teachers, Erl and Ros Happ, who had a love story that intertwined their passion for creation, both in wine and pottery.

Erl and Ros Happ's journey was nothing short of adventurous, and their boundless enthusiasm fuelled their dreams. Over the years, this love of creation took shape in the form of wine and pottery. Their vision was clear: to challenge the status quo and craft engaging wines and distinctive pottery.
Happs wines are the result of 100% estate-grown, hand-harvested fruit. The winery boasts two vineyards, one in Karridale and another in Dunsborough. The entire winemaking process, from vine to bottle, takes place at their estate winery in Dunsborough.

On the other hand, Commonage Pottery showcases pieces from a variety of local artists. However, the spotlight belongs to resident potter Gary Hambelton. With over four decades of experience, Gary is an accomplished Australian ceramic artist known for his stunning rutile blues and reds, achieved through reduction firing. His expertise shines through in every piece.
Every small business has its fair share of challenges, but for Happs Wines & Commonage Pottery, the focus is on their craft and community rather than the hurdles they've encountered along the way.

Their vision for the future is simple yet powerful: to craft engaging wines and pottery that bring people together to savour and appreciate the moment. It's a goal that's deeply rooted in their commitment to quality and creativity.
For the first time, Happs Wines & Commonage Pottery is set to exhibit at Perth Makers Markets, and they couldn't be more thrilled.
