Meet the Maker: Lovely’s Candles

Lovely was a budgie but not just any budgie. She was a beautiful green budgie and a treasured feathered family member to Lucy. Lovely’s memory lives on today as the name of Lucy’s business, Lovely’s Candles. A business that is full of colour, life and joy – just like Lovely.

It is in the beautiful details of these stories that we find and learn about the soul of a business. Local handmade businesses are not a factory with a name - they are real people with real talents and stories that they share with the community.

Lucy DeBrincat is one of these talented people. Her business is her passion and although it is currently a side project, she would jump at the opportunity to quit her day job and focus on Lovely’s Candles full-time.

It was Lucy’s family and friends who started Lucy on her business path, by continuously placing orders for another candle, or soap, or bath bomb. Lucy created simply because she loved it, and these beautiful items became the bread and butter of her business. She was finally convinced to take the leap when people started to ask her for items, because they were of a far superior quality to what you could purchase from a shop. Her glassware also started out the same way and now she does commissioned pieces, from sun-catchers to leadlight panels, and windows.

Lucy’s business name is Lovely’s Candles, but her creative scope has grown to include a much larger range, these days. She operates her business from her workshop at home where she lovingly handcrafts beautiful butterfly sun-catchers that make the light dance, leadlight pieces, art glass candle holders, panels, lamp shades, ornaments, and one-off commissioned pieces. Add to that list Lucy’s beautiful soy candles, melts, and bath bombs that smell utterly divine. She also makes small batch soap using the cold process method and with only the highest cosmetic grade ingredients. Her latest exciting addition is a range of pure essential oil custom blends perfume collection. Lucy’s wonderful product range is all handmade using locally sourced ingredients and materials.

The biggest challenge Lucy has faced in her business is marketing – and she isn’t alone. Many of our local makers find marketing a challenge which is why we encourage you as a consumer to always support locally, not just by making a purchase but by following makers on social media, engaging with their content, and most importantly spreading the word!

When we asked Lucy what she loves about Perth Makers Market, she said “I love everything about PMM. The even playing field it offers is great for makers. The level of organisation and the management and implementation of the event is excellent. The advertising is really good, and it has an excellent reputation. Erin and her team are the best!”

Aww shucks Lucy, we think you are pretty great too!
